Soho House

Stylish interiors, fine dining and laidback luxury – the newest Soho House is everything we’ve come to expect.

With its historic centre, winding canals and enviable work-life balance, Amsterdam is a creative’s dreamscape. And what would an artistic melting pot be without a Soho House?

So it is good timing that the exclusive members’ franchise has just opened its newest House in the Dutch capital: six floors of canalside joy in the form of the Bungehuis building, sitting squarely on the Spuistraat.

With 22 Houses globally – the next will open in Mumbai later this year – the Soho House Group has always been expert at selecting impressive buildings to call home. And this one’s a beaut. A trading office in the Thirties that most recently served as a humanities building for the University of Amsterdam, it’s now been bestowed with 79 bedrooms, a rooftop pool and bar, gym, screening room and more.

A joyful transformation for any former students wanting to go down an upscale version of memory lane. And it’s the chicest venue for a party – put to the test when Stylist attended its launch last month, consuming burgers and pink fizz on the roof before watching Kelis perform a live set and jazz group New Orleans Swamp Donkeys, throwing themselves fully clothed into the pool halfway through their last number.

Roll into bed after a bath with a view

Of course, the catch with a members’ club is that not everyone’s name is on the list (the bedrooms, rooftop and club space on the fifth floor are the sole preserve of members) but for those wanting pasta under a plant-strewn retractable roof or a relaxing treatment, the ground floor’s Cecconi’s restaurant and Cowshed spa are open to all as of September.

And it wouldn’t be Amsterdam if bicycles weren’t catered for too. Park yours in one of 75 spaces; there’s even a repair workshop for flagging tyres. The new London to Amsterdam Eurostar route makes visiting ridiculously easy, with the added allure of a wine festival at the end of September.

Alternatively, hop on the Gs Brunch Boat or dine at MaMa Kelly, a pink palace that Instagrammers’ dreams are made of. Amsterdam has it all going on this month.
