On 29 March 2014 gay weddings will become legalised in the UK. After every good wedding comes a great honeymoon. Here are 10 gay-friendly hotels that will help you celebrate the start of your new life together...

  • Angels & Stars, Santorini, Greece

A seriously glam and hip hotel, glorious views across the Aegean Sea. The on-site spa offers a list of treatments and private hot tubs and some of the individually-designed suites all have sea views and some have private pools. You won't want to leave - although it's worth heading out to explore the island's beaches and booking in for a wine tasting tour or cookery lesson. From €230 (£190) for a standard suite per night for two guests and includes a champagne breakfast

  • Rubens Hotel, London, UK

A short walk from Victoria station, over-looking the Royal Mews and nestled between some of London's prettiest Royal Parks, Rubens is a grand hotel, with equally swish suites to match. A great spot for exploring the city or holing up in one of the opulent suites and ordering room service while you recline in a grand, plump bed. Make sure you head down for afternoon tea, though - it's a delight. Classic double room from £311

  • Alila Villas Soori Bali, Indonesia

A modernist hotel surrounded by landscaped gardens, pools and beach, Alila Villas Soori Bali is a super-upmarket resort. Accommodation compromises individual villas, ranging from one to 10 bedrooms, each with their own swimmin pool and ocean-view courtyard. The minimalist architecture, five-star service and welcoming climate make this the perfect place to switch off and relax. From £484 per night based on two people sharing

  • Nu Hotel, New York, US

Minimalist Nu Hotel in Brooklyn is for urbanites wanting a slice of hip. It's in between Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill and Downtown Brooklyn, plus reasonable walking distance of Brooklyn Heights and Park Slope. The hotel has 93 loft-style rooms including their three suites (with hammocks, naturally). The lobby is home to a cafe and cocktail bar but you'll mostly be heading out exploring New York. From £123 per room, per night

  • Casa San Ruffino, Le Marche, Italy

This charming adult-only B&B, set in rolling hills in Le Marche, prides itself on its gay-friendly customer service. It's run by ex-City workers Claire and Ray and presentation is of the highest order: each room is flawlessly decorated and the pristine swimming pool is surrounded by manicured gardens. Open air opera runs at nearby Sferisterio from the last week in July until the middle of August. Rooms from €140 (£117)

  • Villa de Mazamet, Midi-Pyrenees, France

Owners Peter and Mark have restored this beautiful Art Deco villa to its former glory and now run it as a boutique hotel. There are just five rooms, the menu changes daily and there is a small spa with steam room, hot tub, sauna and wet room with drench shower. Guests can also enjoy massage treatments four afternoons each week. From €110 (£91) per room, per night

  • Vivanta By Taj Coral Reef, Maldives

Looking for a classic tropical island escape? See Vivanta By Taj Coral Reef. The private island has a range of villas and suites perched on the twinkling azure Laccadive Sea. The resort has a pool, spa and various watersports (including great dive sites to explore) but we would be happy with our own private water villa, with sun deck, hammock and sea access. From £701 per night based on two people sharing

  • Hotel Stureplan, Stockholm, Sweden

Known as the gay capital of Sweden, Stockholm makes for a great honeymoon destination, either in summer, when you can explore the city on bike, or winter, when snow covers the streets and makes for some of the world's most romantic urban scenery. Hotel Stureplan provides a good base to explore the city, including the Old Town and the impressive shopping district. It feels more like a majestic family home than a 101-room hotel. A wonderfully relaxing spot. From £120 per room, per night

  • Iguazú Grand Resort Spa & Casino, Argentina

This glitzy hotel is made up of individually-designed suites set around a vast turquoise swimming pool. Its extensive spa facility offers various treatments and massages, plus there's a gym, tennis club, an indoor heated pool, steam room and roman bath. For day tripping, you're only 10 minutes from spectacular Iguazú Falls and near the border of Paraguay and Brazil. From £172 per night based on two people sharing

  • The Pavilions, Phuket, Thailand

The Pavilions is a seriously plush adults-only resort, high up above Phuket. Each of the 49 private villas comes with its own pool and spacious lounge areas. You have choices: ocean views or a connected spa trearment room, where you can enjoy a couples massage. You won't want to leave and there's no need - all meals can be served in your room on on your patio and the strategic landscaping means you have complete privacy. From THB 79,100 (£1,464) from 7 nights, based on two people sharing and includes a welcome foot massage, complimentary afternoon tea & champagne breakfast
