If you’ve long wondered why Paris has a Disneyland and London doesn’t, you’re in luck. A fantastical Hollywood-inspired resort dubbed “the UK Disneyland” is set to open less than an hour from London – and a set of dazzling new illustrations provide a sneak preview of what’s to be expected.

The £3.5 billion Paramount London Entertainment Resort will open in 2021, according to Business Insider. The 872-acre theme park is set to attract 40,000 visitors a day to the Swanscombe Peninsula, its location on the North Kent Marshes, which can be reached in under an hour from London.

The resort, the first of its kind in the UK, will feature rides and attractions inspired by the films the company has produced – potentially including everything from Titanic to Grease, Top Gun and Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

The Telegraph reports that the park will also boast rides themed around BBC Worldwide shows, such as Doctor Who.

It will be divided into several themed areas with rides and attractions, all inspired by different kinds of films. Zones announced so far include Adventure Isle, Land of Legends, Cartoon Circus, Starfleet Command, Action Square, Port Paramount and Entertainment City.

Visitors will be able to watch “West End quality” shows, stay overnight in onsite hotels, and spend their evenings wining, dining and dancing in the theme park’s restaurants, bars, nightclubs.

There will also be a huge event space capable of hosting major music and sports events – as well as one of the largest indoor water parks in Europe.

While the Swanscombe Peninsula can be reached easily by car and by train, Humphrey Percy – group CEO of the theme park’s parent company – said that other transport options were being discussed.

“We’re also considering having a boat from central London or Greenwich, which will all be part of the attraction,” he told Essex Live.

"Paramount Plaza" is another area suggested for the Paramount theme park.

As you might expect, visiting the Paramount park won’t exactly be a cheap day out: a day ticket for one person is expected to be priced at £57.

Official plans for the theme park will be approved when a development consent order is submitted to the government in November. If that’s approved, building will start in 2019 – with the park slated to open to the public in 2022.
