While Greece didn’t make it into the most popular worldwide rankings, it’s still one of the hottest destinations for British tourists looking for a short-haul fix. Holiday sales are up 30% in 2017 so far (compared to the same time last year), suggesting our appetite for sun, sea and calamari is only getting stronger.

The idyllic islands of Santorini and Mykonos are as buzzing as ever, while an edgy Athens neighbourhood was recently voted one of the hippest in Europe. The fragile Greek economy also means that prices tend to be lower than other popular European destinations – a boon, considering that the post-Brexit pound has been weakened against the euro.
