There's a lot to love about foreign travel. From trying exotic new foods to dipping your toes in a sea that is actually warm, jetting off to a far-flung location is almost guaranteed to be an adventure.

If there was one part of travelling we would quibble with, it's the language barrier: after all, hand gestures and elaborate mimes can only get us so far.

But luckily this could soon be a problem of the past, with a revolutionary new gadget promising to translate foreign languages in real time directly into our ear.

Dubbed The Pilot System, the gadget comprises two tiny earpieces that fit comfortably into your ears to translate the voices around you.

Paired with an app that lets you choose your language depending on where you are travelling to, the device will initially work with French, Spanish, Italian and English translations. There are plans to launch further languages including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Arabic and African.

All you need to do is select the language, pop the device into your ears and start exploring.
