A six-month season of events celebrating unsung women from history is set to launch in London.

Titled Women: Work and Power and organised by the City of London, the season will run from London History Day on 31 May until 30 November. It will include talks curated by the Fawcett Society, concerts by women musicians, all-women theatre shows and a film season celebrating women in front of and behind the camera.

“Women: Work and Power will celebrate the achievements of a wide range of outstanding women – some well-known, others, less so – who have helped shape our history and define our national identity,” says Laurie Miller-Zutshi, head of cultural programming and partnerships at the City of London Corporation.

“We have curated a diverse, six-month programme of over 70 events in the Square Mile, ranging from circus and dance to talks on gender equality and an exhibition about the Bajan nurses who helped deliver Britain’s post-war baby boom.

“And this year, Sculpture in the City, the City’s hugely popular annual art installation, will feature work by more female artists than in any previous editions.”

The four Fawcett Society talks will run in June, September and November, covering how women won the vote, the future of women’s work, women in leadership and how women helped shape the City of London.
