Sonia and Mark's stylish city wedding was a true family affair
Sonia and Mark Sommerville's wedding vows had a unique touch: the minister who married them was Sonia's uncle, the same minister who married her mum and dad 36 years earlier. "My dad is the minister of the church and my uncle is also a minister, so we asked him to over see our vows - it was really lovely to have such a close family member marrying us," reflects Sonia. "The whole event was very personal."
Sonia, 30, a sales manager, and Mark, 39, a company director, married in October 2013 at Glasgow's grand Newlands South Church, followed by a reception at city spa hotel Blythswood Square. "We wanted an elegant, classic feel to our wedding," says Sonia. "Simple, with not too many frills and gimics." The result? Classicism and elegance, with considered touches such as co-ordinated dressing gowns for the bridal party, sleek navy bridesmaid dresses and typographic wedding stationery. And then there was the radiant couple: Sonia wearing a short-sleeved, lace wedding dress by London-based Suzanne Neville and Mark in a navy Hugo Boss suit.
After their reception, the couple headed off to the Maldives for two weeks. "It was full relaxation," recalls Sonia. "We barely lifted a finger apart from raising a cocktail."
