The Big Day, a short film that captures the anxiety and emotion of wedding day nerves, has been shortlisted for the Virgin Media Shorts competition. The initiative is designed to uncover up-and-coming British film-making talent.

Set in a house in the north of England, The Big Day follows a bride as she readies herself for her wedding day while family, friends, even the driver, flap around her in a panic. It’s a comedy but it also paints a realistic picture of wedding day tensions and the soundtrack will pluck at your heart strings. The film was made by Karl Falconer of Liverpool-based PurpleCoat Productions.

This year’s 13-strong shortlist was whittled down from 800 entries. The finalists will be judged by industry heavyweights including Shane Meadows and David Tennant and the winner will be given £30,000 of funding to make their next film. The winner will be announced on 7th November 2013.
