Imagine this: you're at a wedding and about to sit down at your table. You're expecting a sugared almond, maybe a couple of chocolates but instead, there's a miniature portrait of you. This is the idea behind Wedding Favoury, a new service launched by east London-based artist Darren Marshall. Provide Marshall with photos of your guests and he will transform them into mini painted portraits, complete with their own easels and name tags. It's more personal than sugared almonds and it doubles as a place setting.
Marshall, a trained artist, has over 20 years experience and regularly exhibits his work and takes commissions. The idea for Wedding Favoury came from his own wedding: in June 2012, he married his partner Emily and created mini-portraits for each of their wedding guests. Marshall will also create bespoke sculptures of couples.
The mini portrait service takes two weeks for up to 100 mini-portraits and you must supply a low-res image (from Facebook, for example) for each guest. Prices start at £20 per painting for 20-40 guests.
Bespoke sculptures - created from photos of the couple - start at £400 and take up to one month to make.
