To celebrate Stylist’s September Shake-up, we’ve teamed up with Wellcome Collection and Visit Finland to offer one lucky reader the chance to win a culture fuelled trip to Finland.
To celebrate their forthcoming free exhibition ‘Living with Buildings’, Wellcome Collection in London has partnered with Visit Finland to offer Stylist readers the chance to win a trip to Finland to visit Alvar Aalto’s celebrated Paimio Sanatorium – home to the famous Paimio chair.
‘Living with Buildings’ is a major Wellcome Collection exhibition about health and architecture, opening on 4 October, which will examine the positive and negative influence buildings have on our physical and mental health. Here you’ll be able to explore some of the ways in which architecture and the built environment interact with concerns of health and wellbeing - from the slums of 19th-century London to the bold experiments of postwar urban planners and therapeutic spaces for people affected by cancer. The exhibition has also inspired a book, Living with Buildings, by bestselling author Iain Sinclair.
To celebrate the exhibition, Wellcome Collection is partnering with Visit Finland to offer one lucky winner two flights and two nights’ accommodation in Helsinki. This includes a visit to the architecturally inspiring Paimio Sanatorium, which houses architect Alvar Aalto’s classic Paimio chair – originally designed in the 1930s for tuberculosis patients. The chair will also be on display at Wellcome Collection’s ‘Living with Buildings’ exhibition.
Finland’s trendy harbour side capital of Helsinki is a modern metropolis famous for its design and architecture. Where East meets West, Helsinki has brought designers such as Marimekko, Artek, Iittala and the father of Finnish Modernism, Alvar Aalto to the world. Visitors can explore the Helsinki Design District in the heart of the city, discovering a selection of more than 200 ateliers, museums, galleries, restaurants and cafes.
With the recently launched Amos Rex art museum and the soon to open Central Library, Oodi, Helsinki remains at the forefront of creativity and innovative design.
