“A drama about an ambitious Conservative politician might not sound like escapist TV in this current climate,” says Stylist’s entertainment director Helen Bownass. “But new BBC series Roadkill is a gripping and intriguing look at power and corruption, with the added benefit of a stellar cast.” Created by David Hare (The Hours, Collateral), the much-anticipated four-part thriller centres on Peter Laurence (the inimitable Hugh Laurie), a narcissistic and self-made minister with his eye on the top political prize. But things begin to unravel when scandals about Laurence’s professional and personal life are uncovered, much to his chagrin.
Happily, there are plenty of powerful women in the mix too, including Prime Minister Dawn Ellison, played by Helen McCrory (Peaky Blinders), vengeful journalist Charmian Pepper (Normal People’s Sarah Greene) and barrister Rochelle Madeley, played by Pippa Bennett-Warner (Gangs Of London). Prepare to get totally drawn in. Roadkill starts 18 October, 9pm, BBC One
