Jordan Peele’s highly-anticipated third film expertly combines horror, comedy and sci-fi

If there’s one person who’s become known for his ability to disrupt and redefine modern horror by combining humour, social commentary and terror, it’s American writer and director, Jordan Peele – and his latest offering continues to do just that. Following on from the genre-defining Get Out and cult hit Us, Nope is an extraterrestrial story that sees Peele reunite with Oscar winner Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer. The pair star as brother and sister duo OJ and Emerald Haywood, who take over their late father’s stunt horse business and bear witness to an uncanny and chilling paranormal discovery in lonely inland California. But while they’re understandably freaked out by this unknown being, their main objective is to capture it on camera and sell the images for money – a clever commentary on society’s obsession with going viral.

“The chemistry between Kaluuya and Palmer is brilliant to see on screen,” says Stylist’s senior digital writer Leah Sinclair. “Kaluuya shines as the quiet, deadpan OJ who ends up being the reluctant hero of the film, while Palmer’s magnetic personality radiates through the role of Emerald. Though the plot doesn’t feel as impactful as Peele’s previous films, Nope doesn’t lack in originality and boasts a brilliant cast – including a brief appearance from Greenleaf’s Keith David and The Walking Dead’s Steven Yeun – as well as some laugh-out-loud moments and a story that bridges the gap between sci-fi and horror in a way only Peele can.” In cinemas now

You’re Going To Love: Foodhak
In the latest of our series focusing on up-and-coming independent brands with female and non-binary founders, allow us to introduce you to Foodhak

What is it? A ready-to-eat food delivery service that uses scientific research and an AI recipe generator to create anti-inflammatory vegan meals targeted towards improving areas like your immune system, cognitive function and cholesterol levels.

Who’s behind it? Former head of affairs at pharmaceutical company Pfizer, Sakshi Chhabra Mittal. When pregnant with her first child, she developed obstetric cholestasis – a liver condition that can increase the risk of stillbirth – and managed to control her symptoms by changing her diet, which inspired the ‘food is medicine’ idea for Foodhak.

Why you’ll love it: Too busy to cook all the time, but still want to eat nutritious food that doesn’t compromise on taste and helps to optimise your health? Browse more than 40 dishes inspired by Indian, Spanish and Japanese cuisine that are clearly labelled with their health benefits, then choose your portion size and delivery options. “Foodhak is trying to biohack your health with food,” Mittal explains to Stylist Loves. “We look through a lot of clinical research and alongside the chefs, we talk about swaps we can make in dishes to make them more gut-friendly or more beneficial for heart health.” The team use an AI recipe generator which looks at ingredient swaps, and while all the dishes are plant-based, they try to use more alkaline vegetables as they’re easier to digest. Once your box arrives, the dishes only take a few minutes to prepare – and they’re not lacking in flavour. “We’re a team of foodies and so we spend a lot of time perfecting the taste of dishes,” says Mittal.
